National League Reaches a New Level: Round One Shows How Kazakh Volleyball Is Changing

The first round of the XXXV Kazakhstan Women's Volleyball Championship (National League) has been completed. The opening matches were about more than results. The new season marks the first major practical step toward changing how the national championship is organized.
On October 3 and 4, the country's eight strongest women's teams played their first-round matches in four cities at once: Turkistan, Taldykorgan, Oskemen and Petropavl. The matchups were Turan vs Aktobe, Zhetysu vs Ertis, Berel vs Burevestnik-Almaty, and Kuanysh vs Karaganda.
Every home team won both of its games. Zhetysu beat Ertis 3:0 twice. Berel defeated Burevestnik 3:0 and 3:1. Kuanysh overcame Karaganda 3:1 and 3:0. Turan beat Aktobe 3:0 twice.

From "Rounds" to a Full Championship
For the 2026/27 season, the Kazakhstan National Volleyball Federation moved the National League to a home-and-away format. This is a fundamental change for club volleyball in the country. Clubs no longer simply travel to a centralized tournament. They now regularly host official matches in the cities they represent.
For spectators, this means more live volleyball close to home. Clubs gain the opportunity to build their own audience and fan culture. For the regions, professional sport becomes a tool for developing infrastructure and promoting volleyball.
The Federation sees the new format not as a calendar change but as a tool for developing the club system. A home match becomes an event for the city. It brings together fans, media, arena operations, refereeing, broadcasting, and the host club's responsibility for the quality of the event. As a result, standards for all participants will gradually rise.

Volleyball Becomes More Accessible to Fans
One of the most visible changes this season is the stronger media presence. Fans no longer need to be in the host city to follow the National League. The Federation live-streamed all eight first-round matches on its official website, volley.kz.
This is an important step toward a unified digital space for Kazakh volleyball. Today the championship includes not only the court and the stands, but also an online audience, an official website, a digital calendar, results, standings and media content. Step by step, the National League is becoming a modern sports media product.

From the Regions to a National Audience
In the first round, matches took place simultaneously in four regions of the country. The Federation intends to build on this principle: a strong national championship must be present not only in the capital and major cities, but directly in the regions.
Every club now has the chance to become the center of volleyball life in its city. This matters especially for women's volleyball. A professional team becomes a role model for girls, brings together sports schools and academies, and builds a pathway from youth sport to the professional level.

One System, from the National League to U21
The Federation's official platform brings together the National League, the Higher League, the U21 Higher League, youth competitions and the national teams. Beach, snow and para volleyball are presented as separate sections.
The U21 Higher League kicked off at almost the same time as the first round of the women's National League. A complete competition pathway is taking shape, from young players to the professional level. This is essential for the national team, because a strong team starts with a high-quality domestic championship and regular match practice.

A New Approach to Home Matches
The home-and-away format places new responsibility on clubs. Each club must now be able to host high-level matches on its own. This covers the arena, playing surface, equipment, refereeing, medical support, communications, fan engagement and broadcast quality.
In this way, the Federation is establishing a unified standard for professional volleyball matches. Going forward, a National League home game in any region of Kazakhstan should meet the same requirements.

A Focus on Modern Sports Management
The first round was a test of the new system. Behind every match lies substantial work: scheduling, team logistics, venues, refereeing, digital services, statistics, broadcasts and coordination with clubs. The Federation's goal is to make the championship predictable, transparent and convenient for athletes, clubs, fans and partners.

Round One Is Only the Beginning
The season has just begun. The Federation's task is to establish the new format, raise the quality of home matches, expand digital coverage and bring volleyball even closer to fans.

The main takeaway from the first round: Kazakh volleyball is moving closer to the regions, to its fans and to modern sports industry standards. The National League used to be primarily a competition between teams. Today a new philosophy is taking shape: every match is an event for the city, the club, the fans and all of Kazakh volleyball.
