Men’s National League: Results from Day 2 of Round 1

Taraz vs Aktobe 0–3 (20–25, 18–25, 23–25)
After yesterday’s defeat, Sergey Trikoz’s team learned their lessons and secured a convincing revenge victory over Yuri Bashkatov’s side.
Aktobe, the silver medallists in each of the last two seasons, and VC Taraz both collected three points from their opening matches.
On October 22–23, Aktobe will travel to face the reigning champions, Zhetysu, while Taraz will host Atyrau.
Berel vs Quanysh 1–3 (23–25, 22–25, 28–26, 19–25)
The teams from East Kazakhstan and North Kazakhstan regions once again delivered an exciting contest in Oskemen. Unlike the previous evening, however, today’s match was settled in four sets, with the victory going to the visitors rather than the home side.
Nevertheless, the young team coached by Rafail Gilyazutdinov can take positives from their opening round. The National League newcomers put in a respectable performance in front of their home supporters.
On October 22–23, Berel will host Okzhetpes, while Quanysh will have a bye in the second round.
Zhetysu vs Okzhetpes 3–1 (28–26, 31–29, 29–31, 25–16)
Following their defeat in the opening match of the season, Marat Adryshev’s team produced a real thriller against the visitors from Kokshetau.
Three of the four sets were decided by narrow margins, with the home side winning two of them. The reigning Kazakhstan champions partially made amends in front of their home supporters.
Just four days later, they will host Aktobe, the silver medallists of the national championship. Okzhetpes, meanwhile, will travel to Oskemen.
Burevestnik vs Atyrau 3–0 (25–9, 25–20, 25–23)
Marat Imangaliyev’s team gave their visitors from western Kazakhstan an unwelcome reception.
Yesterday, Atyrau managed to take the opening set against the home side. Today, however, Burevestnik completely outplayed their opponents in the first set and remained the stronger team in the second and third sets as well.
The Almaty club collected six points in the opening round and moved into sole possession of first place in the standings. On October 22–23, Burevestnik will look to defeat Ural’s Zhaiyq at home. Zhaiyq had a bye in the opening round. Atyrau, meanwhile, will travel to Taraz for their matches on those dates.
