Kazakhstan Pair Stages Comeback
The 20th Asian Games are currently taking place in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture and the city of Nagoya, with the men’s beach volleyball competition now underway.
Kazakhstan is represented by Sergey Bogatu and Kirill Gurin. In their opening match, the Kazakh pair faced Indonesia and secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory with scores of 22–24, 21–19, 15–12.
After losing the opening set, Bogatu and Gurin managed to turn the match around and win the next two sets. They sealed the comeback in the decisive third set, winning 15–12 and opening their Asian Games campaign with a victory.
The Kazakh pair will play their remaining group-stage matches on September 22 against South Korea and on September 25 against Hong Kong.
Kazakhstan currently has two medals at the Asian Games. Arlan Zhanabay won a bronze medal in the men’s triathlon, while Rinata Sultanova claimed gold in the women’s road cycling event.
The 20th Asian Games in Aichi–Nagoya will continue until October 4.
